Welcome to Habitat Hillsborough's 2020 Veterans Build & Veterans Week of Service!

In 2018 we launched our Veterans Build and Veterans Week of Service to focus public attention on the issues Veterans face in securing affordable housing and maintaining their homes. Nearly 4 million Veterans, across the country, pay more than 30% of their income for housing. Of that number more than 1.5 million pay at least 50 percent in rent or mortgage costs per month.

Veterans make up 10% of the total population of Hillsborough County and many of them are in need of access to affordable housing or home repairs of some kind. Our Veterans Build provides YOU the opportunity to make a substantial impact in the lives of those Veterans who are in need of support.

How does the 2020 Veterans Build & Veterans Week of Service Work?

SPONSOR THE VETERANS BUILD!

• Sponsorship opportunities with recognition benefits available.
• Reserved Corporate Team build days start at $3,000
• Individual build day opportunity: $50 (U. S. Veterans participate for Free)
• Commit to volunteer one full day on the home site or Home Preservation site from 7:30am to 2:30pm.
• Teams can select their build day or Home Preservation day upon payment...first come, first serve (November 5, 2020 - January 2021).

-Veterans Week of Service: Nov. 5^th thought Nov. 11^th – We will work on one Home Preservation project per day for a Veteran in our community. Ending on Wednesday, November 11^th.

-Veterans Build- Home Build: Nov. 11^th through January 2021- This is a new home build that will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 11^th and wrap up in Jan. 2021.

***Every dollar raised will support the Home Build and Home Preservations. ***

Veterans Build

Last year’s Veteran Build home went to US. Veteran Vincent Smith.  This local veteran fought for our freedom by serving tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. But now, this Air Force veteran is serving someone else: his brother.  Vincent is the primary caretaker for his younger brother, who suffers from a rare form of cancer and needs a wheelchair to get around.

The home was built with special features specifically for Vincent’s brother, like wheelchair accessible entryways & shower, handrails, lowered appliances for easier reach, and wider access features for mobility and accessibility.
